In 2008, Aquidneck Island Robotics (AIR) began in Newport, RI with two mentors and five high school students. Today, AIR is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, volunteer-run organization with 60+ student members and 30+ volunteer mentors returning each season.

We serve 100+ students each year, making us the largest youth competitive robotics organization in Rhode Island.

AIR is open to all students in Rhode Island and Southeast Massachusetts from public, private, and home schools.

We offer membership scholarships so students can participate regardless of their ability to pay.

AIR teams take part in FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), a worldwide robotics organization.

Our FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team 78 AIR STRIKE is internationally ranked and has qualified for the World Championships every year since its inception in 2009.

Aquidneck Island Robotics embodies the vision of FIRST:

“To transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology leaders”
